What is the cost of the event?
This is event is free, but all participants must register on Eventbrite.
Will there be food served?
Yes, this 13 hour hackathon will include breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The hackathon will also be located in a venue which is within walking distance of a few local food options.
I am a boy. Can I participate in this event?
Unfortunately, boys are not allowed to participate as hackers during GDI Hacks; however, mentors or judges can be male. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you have further questions about male participation.
I am a high school girl. Can I participate in this event?
High school students above the age of 18 are welcome, and are eligible for prizes. High schoolers can be paired up with college students at the request of the student.
What should I bring to the hackathon?
Your laptop and charger. Additionally, you should be ready to learn, contribute, and make a difference for a good cause!
I have limited programming experience. Should I still participate?
Yes! It is okay to attend with little programming experience. Just make sure you are on a team with more experienced programmers and are willing to learn.
How can I learn more programming skills before this event?
There are many great online coding courses including treehouse (teamtreehouse.com), udacity.com, codeacademy.com, and code.org. (GDI does not preferentially endorse any specific course!)
Can I work on an existing project?
No, we are conducting this hackathon for the purpose of providing free assistance to local organizations. We will help these local organizations define their needs for the website (site map, content, and marketing campaign). These provided materials will be a solid base on which to deploy your UX design and web development skills!
